In continuing his quest to boost his stature on the national stage, California Governor Gavin Newsom recently sent 500 desperately needed ventilators to other states – even as many local officials are struggling to supply local medical facilities.
From the Los Angeles Times: “Riverside County officials said the state recently denied their request for an additional 500 ventilators, even though the county expects demand for the breathing machines at county hospitals and medical centers to exceed the supply in less than three weeks.”
“Santa Clara County, another area hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, is offering a $1,000 bounty for each device it receives and has ordered companies with the devices to report their inventory to the county.”
Even though Governor Newsom says that the ventilators sent to other states are “loans” how long would it take to get them back to California? To ensure they are operational and sanitized for when our local hospitals need of them?
Rather than try to position himself as an alternative to President Trump, Governor Newsom should focus on the needs of California. That is what he was elected to do.
